After that rant about what I read in NYT, I was cheered by the International Herald Tribune's review of Robert H. Frank's "The Economic Naturalist", a book explaining the economics and common sense behind design. It answers those random questions we've always had about really random things, like why milk cartons are rectangular, why women's clothes button from the left and men's on the right, why DVD cases are bigger than CD cases even though both discs are the same size....the list goes on. It sounds like a good read, the sort of read where you learn a little more about the world and makes the most mundane things interesting and new in your eyes again. I should really print out those discount coupons I get from Borders and do something useful with them...
