summer days: the jaunty skirt and blouse

sart05

Photographer: Scott Schuman

I was looking at all the pictures I have saved in my computer, and decided that for someone living on the equator, I have way too many pictures of girls chicly cozied up in grey sweaters and scarves and trench coats.

So I think every week, or at least, on a regular basis, I'm going to post a picture of a fantastic warm weather outfit where the person isn't layered up to the gills. Even better if the outfit is sans jacket, and involves maybe two items of clothing max (excluding shoes etc).

And it's not about looks we wear to the beach, although I suppose if summer only came around for a few times a year, I would feel the need to dress like I were headed for the beach when the sun is blazing. Rather, it's about looks that still feel pulled together and purposeful in a going-about-my-business way, rather than a languid, vacation-y way.

Anyway, this outfit shot by Scott Schuman for The Sartorialist is one of my favourites. I like her easy, carefree, scruffiness, but she still has an elegance about her.

Happy Friday!

love the look. Her boyish haircut really seems to be the key, and I like how she buttoned her shirt all the way up so despite the sunglass hanging from there it looks put together instead of scruffy.

That's a neat idea--particularly since I never know what to wear when it's hot out!

Oh I remember this picture. People were commenting on how all of Schumann's pics had girls who did really weird things with their legs - sort of the bowl-legged thing, but I just remember thinking that this girl was the epitome of gamine perfection. Not many girls can pull of that hair with a full skirt.

I look forward to this new project - I always feel at a loss of what to wear in summer.
What a great outfit, pulled together yet carefree!

That's such a great idea! I find summer dressing so difficult! This is a lovely look.

I'm much more of a Autumn/Winter dresser - I'm awful at Summer dressing - somehow feel very exposed and the opposite of the lovely easy, breezy relaxed vibe I'm going for! So these pics will provide much needed inspiration! x

Because of these posts, I'm going to end up with a lot of summery-looking inspiration photos for someone who lives in murky England! I'm really looking forward to seeing what you come up with; my wardrobe completely changes in summer and most of my winter pieces are put away. I really struggle with the change in seasons.

I'm excited about this! I live in a pretty hot climate (though not tropical) its 100+ daily here from June - October and it certainly can be challenging to keep up any semblance of style.

I LOVE this look and love your idea for posts. I live in a temperate climate, so don't have very many days of extreme heat (and nearly no humidity), so I can only imagine the challenges of looking put together in that environment. It will be interesting to see!
