hands-on

Apart from starting the new job - my body is in shock from the early, very early hours - and having a hell of a time at the Florence and the Machine + The XX concert, my mum, my sister and myself found time to complete a little project.

Behold, the result of our second home-tailoring attempt -

We copied the design from a top belonging to my older sister that we love, drew up the pattern on paper, traced it, cut it, and ran it up on our little sewing machine. Thanks to my mum, who took lessons in her youth, it was pretty uncomplicated affair. Basically, she instructed, we listened.
(She also took care of the niftier details, like some of the seams, and the stitches holding down the pleats, but my sister and I worked out how to trace and cut the cloth with the right allowances for the pleats!)
We're making two more, one in navy, and one in two-tone navy and cream. I feel so proud, and can't wait to be more hands-on in sewing those up.
