lip service

Been using Aesop's Rosehip Seed Lip Cream since February, and I wonder why I didn't buy some lip cream sooner instead of relying solely on lip balm all my life. Since I started using it, I've had very little problems with chapped lips and I use lip balm less frequently now, just once every few days. Because the Aesop packaging isn't designed to be carried around (crush it in your bag and all the cream comes spilling out the next time you open the tube), I usually use it at night before I sleep, and on my 12-hour flight to Frankfurt it was a godsend - I didn't get off feeling like the skin was about to crack off my lips. It smells lovely and absorbs easily, and it's one of those moments when you feel that a beauty product is actually doing something for you.

I don't know how the Aesop cream compares to other products in the market since it was the first time I'd ever tried such a product. I also wonder if conventional moisturiser for the face would work as well...do we need specially formulated cream for lips  (Philosophy has one that's for eyes AND lips. Hmm.)? In any case, I'm quite glad to move away from lip balms which I never enjoyed using.

Does anyone use lip creams or treatments? What do you guys think?

Yep, random rave over. Back to work.

I literally just a second ago put my nightly bit of aquaphor on my lips. It hasn't mean any miracle treatment though so I cannot recommend it other than saying it is inexpensive and gets me through the night.
Anything that gets a good review after being used on a flight is worth investigating to me!!!

editor: I'm actually planning to try using regular moisturiser on my lips to see if it's similarly effective. I'm just happy to find an alternative to applying lip balms, which don't seem to do much in terms of hydration.

Thanks for the recommendation. I have never used a lip balm or cream so this is definitely a product that I will try if I travel in future:)

Thanks for the recommendation. The only lip balm I have ever used that does a great job is the Kiehl's one - have you tried it? I used to like MAC's tinted balms, but they have discontinued my favourite shades, so it's back to Kiehl's.

I made my own lip balm (beeswax, olive oil, sesame oil) and after a short adjustment period, I find that it works really well and I use it much less than I used to use the commercial ones.

justeileen: Lucky you that you can make do without...I don't know I have this problem with chapped lips, even though I drink plenty of water and don't bite or lick my lips or anything.

Ammu: Actually I use Kiehls, and it's not bad, but I never really like the feeling of balm on my lips, even though I know it's necessary against the elements (cold dry winds and the sun). I don't like the greasy feeling.

Abby: I admit I'm incredibly unmotivated when it comes to DIY, but this one does look simple enough. What proportions of each do you use?
I'm a shocker when it comes to skincare. One can call it being a minimalist but I suppose, it's also borderline lazy. I bought a Korres lipbalm which was terrible.

I've tried Yes to Carrots but I lost it in the deep abyss of my handbag one day and disappeared forever. I'm trying Burt's Bees now. A friend of mine raved about the Burt's Bees tinted lip balm which I haven't tried yet.

I've only heard great things about Aesop.
BTW Lin, are you on Twitter?

Once when i had really bad problem with my lips I started using Body Shop's hemp balm for lips and it was amazing, effective, not greasy and my lips healed very quickly. Now i use it when trekking, as its protects well from sun and wind. And the smell, so refreshingly herbal:)not everyone's cup of tea, but for me it was great, i dont like all this fake strawberry flavours;). And its cheaper that Aesop of kielhs...

Chocolate, cookies & candies: I'm quite slack as well. I'm always looking for a one-product solution! I didn't really like Burt's Bees...I felt like once it wore off my lips felt even drier than before and so I needed to keep reapplying. Aesop makes nice but not exceptional things, and I find it expensive - the one thing that keeps me trying their stuff is the scent, because I love scented products.

Nope I'm not on Twitter. Okay I do have an account but I only use it to follow breaking news from the major papers and wires...

Anon: That sounds quite good, I've always had this impression that everything at the Body Shop is perfumed with something overpowering - like their fruity shower gels.

The best lip balm I've ever tried is from Neal's Yard - one application generally lasts all day, it's inexpensive, has SPF protection, and it smells wonderful, like honey. Unfortunately it seems to sell only in the UK and once I finished it, that was it. They used to sell it on ASOS, but no longer!

I'm so lax with lip care. I used to smother my lips with vaseline each night before bed, really caking it on, but now that I'm sharing my bed it's stopped. I use Burt's Bees during the day because I like the tints but I do need some night time lip care. I might have to give this a try!

Ahh I'm so glad you posted this, I have insanely sore lips at the moment and whenever I'm stressed. Usually Vaseline is enough or burts bees but sometimes I need something extra intense - this sounds lovely, can't wait to give it a try! :)

Sounds like good stuff. I am a total lip balm addict:

and truly don't think I could get through a day without it. My current balm of choice is the kiehl's. I might have to check out the aesop stuff if it could break the cycle of addiction I'm in!

I was gifted the Rosehip Seed Lip Cream when I went to an Aesop event. I haven't finished it out because it's not transportable and I'm always on the go.It's good but I didn't find it as good as Caudalie's lip conditioner. Caudalie's is the only lip balm I use these these day.

Kate: I find that night-time lip care helped me worry less about what happens during the day, while more lip balms in general feel like a temporary solution, but don't really hydrate enough. I do think I might see if conventional moisturiser does the same thing!

Fen: I actually really the feeling of lip balms on my lips - it always feels like this layer on my lips that doesn't absorb. After trying a cream I think they might absorb and hydrate better, but this will need further testing haha.

Elle Talis: Thanks for the tip, are those balms or creams? Will definitely investigate when I next go shopping.

Nomadic D: I was quite blown away when I saw the picture on your blog, hahaha, and love the reviews! I do feel like some balms leave my lips feeling drier after they've worn off, and then I need to apply more, and that's something I'm trying to avoid. So far only Kiehls and Neal's Yard works for me. Rosebud Salve is good too but I really hated the smell.

Lindsay K: Mine was a gift too, incidentally, haha. If Caudalie is better, I must check it out some time..

I've never even tried a lip cream! This one looks lovely, I tried Aesop just for the first time recently because it's the toiletries that the Park Hyatt uses. I love, love their scents.
