the trailblazers, part III

I love Vera Wang. I've dedicated far too many posts too her, but I can't stop. She's the best romanticist there is in New York (there are lots of young potentials, but they've yet to fully develop their visions yet), and she has a singular vision she isn't afraid to push to the world. She's conceptual but she touches base with the American sportswear aesthetic to keep her designs easy and grounded and wearable. She has a luxurious hand with fabrics and embellishments but always look light and ethereal and never gaudy. For all her referencing, her designs are modern and distinctly hers and never becomes deriative. Ms Wang makes a powerful argument for New York fashion - that you can stick to the traditions of sportswear without sacrificing innovation, romance, and artistry.
